Global Village Partners in Uganda

Our work in Uganda began in January 2020, with a Calvin University class that went to visit and work with HopeSpeaks, an organization started by Calvin graduates, Ben and Kari David. The need for further speech pathology services, as well as hearing health and other allied health services like physical therapy and occupational therapy were needed. After a delay due to the pandemic, a memorandum of understanding was signed between HopeSpeaks and Global Village Partners in 2022.

Goals with our partners

1. To increase the training of personnel of HopeSpeaks to conduct hearing screenings, by

a. Identifying areas of training that should be addressed.

b. Providing systematic training for personnel.

c. Providing access to an audiologist, via video conferencing, for questions and suggestions.

2. To increase audiological services in Uganda, by

a. Advocating for a university degree program in audiology.

b. Consulting with other organizations in Uganda that desire to establish hearing clinics.

Global Village Partners hopes to lead a trip of professionals and students in January 2024 to begin working with HopeSpeaks toward our mutual goals.
